Hi Everyone,
About a month or so ago I was traveling with one of my girls on a college tour in Indiana. When we finished our visit, we had a little bit of time to explore the town and she wanted to go shopping in the small boutiques in the area. We found a few cute pieces for her at one of the local shops, and she was thrilled. About a week later she was getting ready to leave for school in the morning, and I noticed the pant I had just bought her, had a large rip at the seam. It was already falling apart... and will end up in landfills sooner than later. I asked her to take them off as they needed to get repaired. She knew what was coming next - a "mini-lecture" from mom on quality, sustainability, and fast fashion. She looked at me as if she were to say - "Yes, yes I know you get what you pay for and it's always better to invest in a few good pieces that will last..."
I've always voiced my opinion that it is always better to buy less, but better quality. I can remember myself as a high school teen saving my babysitting money so I can purchase that one pair of boots from Italy ( no kidding...) or that beautiful Tee staring at me from the best boutique in town. Of course when you are young and just starting up in life, or when you're a college student, that's not realistic. It took me years to get there, but the point is to have the awareness early on of the difference between the things that fit better and are made to last, and the things that don't. That has always been important to me personally, and when buying for the business.
It takes time to build up your closet, but slowly and with intention it can be done. Start with good basics that fit well and add on as you go. Invest in key pieces like a good Jacket, basic pants, tees, etc. Slowly you will notice that every time you buy a new piece, it can work back to what you already have in your closet. It's like a puzzle. Have fun with it, be playful, and let us help you add to what you already have.
All three of my daughters may have not liked listening to yet another "mini-lecture," and there have been quite a few of them. As my youngest twins graduated from High School this year, and are soon to be off to their next chapter in life, I know that my "preachings" are stored in their minds, and perhaps will eventually translate into being mindful of how every decision we make in our own life affects everything around us.
Cheers,
Ayellet.

DID YOU KNOW?
85% of our clothes end up in landfills or burned. When consumers throw away clothing in the garbage, not only does it waste money and resources, but it can take 200+ years for the materials to decompose in a landfill. During the decomposition process, textiles generate greenhouse methane gas and leach toxic chemicals and dyes into the groundwater and our soil.
